Original from the 20's, it was a sad, sad spectacle.

Mr.Bobcat came along and knocked it down in about, oh, 3 minutes, then carved up all that old concrete. A week later, the boys framed it - deep too - and a new pad with 6" curbing was done just before winter kicked in.

Framing crew of four finished the 20x24 shell and roof in about, oh, 8 hours flat. And they did quality work.

Interior height is 9'8" - so plenty of space for cabinets everywhere on the one wall. Lumber storage and tools, etc. are all set for the other side. That Nitro won't be in there much at all...

It is wired for power and sound - I like my iPod on "eleven" and includes lots of plugs, including a dedicated 220 circuit for a future upgrade to my table saw, and my next purchase - a proper 8" jointer. Also a plug or two in the ceiling for drop down options and an air cleaner unit (next next purchase...)DSC_0024.jpgDecember days 013.jpg

Sheeted the ceiling myself (thank you inventor of drywall lift...) and then insulated like crazy. In the fall I plan on using a rental to blow in the fluff for the rafters to keep Winnipeg winters far away ...

Great question. Budget hurt hard by other house stuff - did I mention the house was built in 1926? - and I am leaning towards a simple industrial heater, electrical, hung in the corner. If you look at the shot in post #4, the area below the windows can accommodate a trench to the house on the left and easy access to NG supply. But that's way more than the box and plugged in or hard wired. So, waiting until later this year to decide. I know the long term savings are real but I may be moved back to Cowtown sooner than I thought....sigh.

Yeah - under all those blue tarps were my tools, some rusting away. But a day of clean up and almost back to new.

Cabinets first, then a couple of new tools to complete (?) the collection.
    Cheers,
    Thom.

If you were still here in Calgary you wouldn't have to worry about them rusting away!!!! LOL.

Six months of winter here or there - I doubt it would have been any different. Moisture plus metal = rust.

Still, looks like I will be back in Cowtown soon enough anyway. Hey - time to build a new garage!!

Not much progress on much of anything...the heat in this town for the last two weeks has been oppressive.

Still, today I set up to accomplish something, if not all the cabinets I still need to build. So, I used some of the very old reclaimed lumber from an old garage my neighbour knocked down to trim the windows and give the new shop some character & class.

I then ripped some walnut to 1/4" thick and covered all the gaps, leaving a reveal of about a 1/4" as well. Me like.
    Cheers,
    Thom.

You can see some of the old nail holes. It took me a week to pull every one of them from roughly 200 bd ft. Fun...
